‘MUSIC OF THE YORKSHIRE DALES’ by W.R. Mitchell MBE.
No great music was composed in the Yorkshire Dales, but popular tunes were absorbed into daily life at concerts and dances and musical accompaniment by fiddle and melodeon. Chapelfolk revelled in hymns through out which the Bible was set to music. The strains of brass bands were to be heard on every hand. Songs written about the Settle-Carlisle railway are rich and diverse. This book is a joyous and tuneful compilation featuring some original scores . Comic songs, brass band music, Church and Chapel, visiting celebrities. A musical pilgrimage.
