This dvd is the story of one of the most important days on the Settle-Carlisle Railway for decades. On the 22nd March 2005, HRH Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales, visited the region aboard the Royal Train, hauled by steam locomotive, Princess Coronation Class No. 6233 ‘Duchess of Sutherland’. For only the second time since 1967, a steam-hauled Royal Train was operated in the UK.
Viewers will recall the 2002 train which took HM The Queen through North Wales. In 2005 it was decided to hold a similar event using the Princess Coronation Class No. 6233 ‘Duchess of Sutherland’ with HRH The Prince of Wales on board – this time for a visit to the Settle-Carlisle Railway.
We have extensive footage of the whole event, including many lineside shots and the build-up to making the event happen which was filmed at the locomotive’s trust’s headquarters at Butterly.
Approx. 40 minutes.
