Regional Railways – The Loco Lives!: The summer of 1991 saw a resurgence of loco-hauled on the supposedly ‘Sprinterised’ Regional Railways network – we see classes 20, 26, 31, 37 and 47 ‘on loan’ to RR.
BR Newslines: The news from BR, including 87101, 85101, 59104 on the West and East coast, Gloucester Rail Day with quadruple headed 20s, 91 in Edinburgh, last days of Bury Electrics, new Provincial livery, etc.
Main Line Steam News: A busy summer gives great variety of main line steam, the highlight being 7000o Britannia’s main line steam test, at Crewe, Chester, Chirk and Weston Rhya, the lineside repairs at Shrewsbury and her run on one cylinder and her main line return, at Gresford, Marsh Farm Junction Condover and Haslem. ‘Carnforth Phoenix’ includes 70000 and 71000 together, with 48151 at seven locations on the Cumbrian Coast line. 5407 and 6201 also appear here. The S&C sees 6201 and 46203 together at last, with seven other action shots and 71000 on her record run. ‘Going West’ are 46229 and 45596 whilst 5029 Nunney Castle ran her first main line trip with InterCity’s ‘Inter-City’ to Malvern, seen at Charlbury, Moreton-in-Marsh, Malvern Wells, Worcester, Great Malvern and Frampton Mansell. ‘North Wales Visitors’ are 777 (five shots), 4472 (two shots) and 4771 (three shots). A ‘Cambrian Reprise’ gives more action of 7819 and 75069.
