Contents:
Opening Scene: 34092 on the Settle & Carlisle on her last northbound run.
Dalwhinnie Daze: A ‘spotlight’ feature on this remote Scottish Highland station that exercises a strange fascination, as it seems lost in time but for the variety of modern traction from HSTs to 47s, 37s and 26s.
Cab Ride – Carlisle to Glasgow: This long-awaited cab ride was recorded on 8 November 1988 aboard 86250 on the Caledonian Main Line over Beattock.
Diesel Galas: The modern traction enthusiasts have been well served recently by the preserved railways. We cover Galas on the Severn Valley, Worth Valley and East Lancs.
The Real End of BR Steam: The Vale of Rheidol celebrated a sad event on Bonfire Night – its last special day under BR control. Naturally we covered this with shed and lineside scenes of Numbers 7 and 8 in action.
DMU/Bus Replacements – On Hire to British Railways: Re-opening of the Glanrhyd Bridge on the Heart of Wales line including DMU in the river, terminating trains and the re-opened bridge. Also track-lifting on the S&C between Garsdale and Horton-in-Ribblesdale.
Archive: More steam archive from the Cam Camwell Collection.
Black 5s Today: One of the most numerous steam classes has become one of the most numerous in preservation. We see eight examples: 5000 on the Severn Valley, 5231 on the Great Central, 45428 and 44767 on the North Yorkshire Moors plus 5305, 5407, 44871 and 44932 on the Main Line.
Clapham and Waterloo: By contrast to the above, this is a feature on the signal boxes at the busiest junction in the world and one of its feeder termini. Plenty of action here!
Bluebell Hayling: The Bluebell Railway’s tribute to the Hayling Island Branch which closed 25 years ago.
Footplateman of the Year: Our first visit to the Dean Forest Railway was to see how various crews from around the country responded to the challenge to find the ‘Footplateman of the Year’.
News: As always a round-up of all that’s interesting, from new freight turns to new liveries, the green Peak, Railtours, Open Days, Winchfield 150, more ‘last’ Salisbury steam. Clun to Marylebone, 48151 on the S&C, plus much more.
Cover Photo: The Tamar Bridge in 1959, its Centenary Year.
Approximately 120 minutes.
