The Queen Mary was one of those famous icons of the 20th century. The world’s most famous ocean liner spent 31 years crossing the North Atlantic and was requistioned for the duration of World War Two to transport troops all over the world. The liner has always carried great affection with those who travelled on her or who worked on her as officers or crew.
Today, RMS Queen Mary is preserved for us all to see and admire. Her berth in Long Beach, California right opposite the city shores, shows off her stunning outline to everyone who visits.
This is the story of the Queen Mary’s construction on the Clyde in Scotland and her maiden voyage in 1936 when she ‘lifted the cloud’ on the great depression years by embarking on a quite remarkable career at sea.
This DVD is full of archive film from the 1930s, of her wartime period and of the Mary at sea on the North Atlantic in the 1950s and 60s.
We hear from crew and passengers who travelled on board the liner and listen to reunions of former crew members.
Altogether, the story of the world’s most famous ocean liner, the Queen Mary.
